As this years theme is ‘Planet vs. Plastics’, we wanted to share some information on ‘REPREVE’ yarn, which is produced by a company called Unifi – leading innovators in sustainable technology development.

Unifi’s mission is to collect plastic bottles by hand from coastlines which have no formal recycling system. The collected bottles are ground into flake to remove contaminants. The flake is melted into high quality REPREVE resin, which is then melted into liquid polymer and extruded to form fibre. From there, it is spun into textured yarn.

There are a number of high profile brands already using REPREVE yarn: H&M, TOMS & Quiksilver.
